Comprehension:
- Makes and confirms predictions about content.

Decoding:
- Uses meaning which includes using picture clues, context clues and background knowledge.
- Uses knowledge of English language which includes sentence structure and grammer.
- Uses letter/sound relationships (phonics) which include breaking words into smaller words and looking for word parts.
Independent Reading:
- Begins to silent read for information, pleasure and insight.
- Begins to balance fiction and nonfiction reading.
Writing
Writing Process:
- Self-selects and stays on topic.
- Expresses voice through drawing and words.
Written Product:
- Includes appropriate facts and details to support a topic.
Grammar and Usage:
